The Starters Academy lasts approximately 21 weeks (~ 7 months). Of that time, 8 days are in-person (usually on Sundays), and the rest is done remotely via GitHub, Slack and the Academy's submission and grading system.

BOOTCAMPS
The Bootcamp is an intensive, 2 day event, where students and teachers will be in the same building for 10 hours per day, and the students will go through their first 20 Learning Units.
HACKATHONS
Hackathons are longer and less structured exercises, often done in teams, in which the students must complete a relatively advanced project. Hackathons require the students to make use of the skills they learned in the Learning Units, but also to excel at teamwork and communication.

I entered the academy with some previous knowledge, but it was nowhere near to what I learned throughout the first edition. The learning materials were adequate and simple to learn in order to face the monthly hackathons. The hackathons were super challenging and in awesome places. Oh and food / drinks / coffee in the hackathons were never a problem, so the logistics were great!
